The “1916 Rising” = The Easter Rising — a republican insurrection in Ireland that began on Easter Monday, 24 April 1916.
What it was
A coordinated armed rebellion by Irish republicans (mainly the IRB + Irish Volunteers + ICA) against British rule. They wanted to establish an independent Irish Republic while the British Empire was pre-occupied in WWI.
