Michael Barry No. 1 Cork Brigade Cork IRA

Hello,

I’m looking for information on my grandfather’s brother, Michael Barry, who was buried at St. Finbar Cemetery in 1949:

Name: Michael Barry

Residence: 2 St. Christopher’s Road, Montenotte Park, Cork

Death: 9 May 1949.

per attached obit: “The funeral took place from St. Patrick’s Church to St. Finbar’s cemetery

He was in No. 1 Brigade and joined in 1917.

Any chance I could get a picture of the grave or any other information that may be available? (Also I really appreciate all that you volunteers do. I just started volunteering for Find A Grave in Portland, Oregon. Love connecting folks with the past!)

Late Mr. M. Barry Timoleague Man’s Funeral In Cork Deep regret was felt as the death of Mr. Michael Barry, St. Christopher’s Drive, Cork, which occurred in the South Infirmary there recently after a brief illness. Deceased who was a native of Curriheen, Lislevane, Timoleague was in the employment of a well-known City firm. He took a prominent part in the struggle for Independence. Joining the I.R.A. in 1917 he was a member of G. Company Cork No 1 Brigade… Active Service Unit and…. the principal engagement… eye in one of them. The funeral took place from St. Patricks’ Church to St. Finbar’s cemetery, Cork. Rev Fr. Stritch, C.C. Rev. Fr. Murphy, Rev. Fr. Hurley and Rev. Fr. O’Driscoll officiated. Among the chief mourners were: Mrs. Margaret Barry (widow), Helen and Margaret Barry (daughters), Patrick and William Barry (brothers), Michael Barry (nephew), Kathleen, Eileen, and Mary Barry, and Josephine Hart (nieces), P. Whooley (brother-in-law), Cornelius and M. Crowley, Mary and Hannah Crowley. A guard of honor was provided by officers of G. Company and hundreds of his old comrades. marched behind the remains. Three volleys were discharged over the grave by a firing party under Lieutenant Michael Kenny and The Last Post was…
